While
Salina city commissioners on Monday gave unanimous support for a League
of Women Voters' idea to form a task force to study governmental
consolidation, the idea got a mixed response from the two Saline County
men who seek a seat on the Saline County Commission.
Republican Randy Duncan said Tuesday he doesn't favor consolidation and doesn't see the need for a study.
"It's a free country. If somebody wants to form a task force to
study something, it's well within their right to do so," Duncan said.
"I think it would be a waste of time."
Democrat Gary Swartzendruber thinks a task force is a good
idea, as long as it includes representatives of rural Saline County,
it's a thorough study, and it leads to a nonbinding referendum to
Saline County voters.

the candidates had to say about consolidation, read reporter Sharon
Montague's story in Wednesday's Salina Journal.
